Find out more about Alicia Tonge, a Digital Marketing Executive at Polypipe Building Products.
What is your position at Polypipe and how long have you been there?
I’ve been a Digital Marketing Executive at Polypipe Building products since April of 2018.
What does a typical day at Polypipe look like for you?
I manage the Polypipe Building Products social media presence on both our Trade and Home accounts, which means that my day tends to start with a cup of tea and going over the previous evening’s social media activity. I do keep an eye on things out of hours and I will always aim to get back to people as quickly as I can – but sometimes it’s just not possible and a response would have to wait for during business hours, so first job is to make sure I get people an answer as soon as possible.
The rest of my days are extremely varied. I could be creating digital content for social media, editing product photography, creating content for our website, I could be out of office doing site or product photography, or I could be covering an event or trade show – no day is the same!
What are three words you associate with Polypipe?
Established, community, Doncaster.
What is the best part of working for Polypipe?
The best part of working for Polypipe is the people and the support you get from them. I am part of a great team in the marketing department, but equally everybody outside our office from the Customer Experience Team, to the Product Managers, to the external sales team are always happy to help.
What is your proudest moment at Polypipe?
I think surviving 31 Days of Giveaways was quite a proud moment for me! It required constant monitoring throughout the month and encouraged some great engagement amongst our followers. It is always great to make somebodies day and our winners seemed to love the prizes. We discovered some great new industry accounts to follow throughout the month, it was really well received. I must admit though, that I was ready for the notifications to stop by the end of the month!
What keeps you busy at the weekends?
From a love of walking in the Peak District or North Yorkshire, I’ve become a bit of a photography hobbyist so on weekends I’m usually somewhere with my camera enjoying the outdoors.
Where is your favourite place to go on holiday?
My favourite place is Robin Hoods Bay in North Yorkshire as I have been nearly every year of my life and have a great family connection with the place. Outside of the UK, my favourite holiday was Chicago.
Tell us something about yourself that would surprise us?
My degree is actually in Zoology. I’m a massive animal lover, with a keen interest in animal behaviour and have spent time working at both Flamingo Land Zoo and Chester Zoo.
